Your tooth, or rather the outside layer of each tooth, is made of enamel. This layer helps to protect your teeth from all types of damage. Tooth enamel is one of the toughest substances – ever. It is even tougher than bone. It helps to protect the pulp in your teeth and protects the nerves from outside factors.
Loss Of Enamel
Enamel degradation has multiple causes. However, one of the more common reasons is the acids in the products and liquids you eat. The saliva you continually generate neutralizes the mouth’s acid to secure your teeth. So, if you consume so much of this sort of food and drink and don’t care for your teeth properly, the exterior enamel can decay with time.
What Leads To Enamel Loss?
Some of the foods you eat that induce oxidation are foods high in sugar such as ice cream and syrups.
Does Anything Else Lead To Enamel Loss?
Other causes include acid reflux (chronic), teeth grinding, poor to no saliva production, asthma, frequent and continuing use of medications such as aspirin and antihistamines, and eventually very severe eating disorders such as bulimia and anxious anorexia, which potentially disrupts the whole digestive system. This could expose your teeth to all that stomach acid.
