Why Do We Always Take New X-Rays Each Year?

Dental x-rays, also referred to as radiographs, are very important for oral health. During the process, we will take images of your teeth for oral health analysis.

It gives our clinic the opportunity to examine your teeth for possible problems such as tooth cavity, tooth decay, and broken enamel among others. Just like observing general oral hygiene, dental x-rays contribute to the overall oral wellbeing. Below are the reasons why you should schedule an annual x-ray session in our clinic.

Reasons To Have Annual Dental X-Rays

While we conduct multiple x-rays from time to time in order to track certain dental problems, an annual x-ray would allow us to notice the problems before they become a bother and deal with them. In most cases, you never know you have a dental problem until it becomes serious. An x-ray would allow us to see everything from the tip of roots to the bones under the gums at a deeper level. We can then proactively diagnose and treat dental issues.

Your children also need to have the annual x-ray done on them so that the growth of their adult teeth can be actively monitored. Some children experience complications such as double teeth in which the adult tooth grows behind the baby tooth. It is usually very painful and can lead to other complications too. If we notice such, we will be able to take corrective measures in time.

If you don’t get an x-ray done at least once a year, we might end up treating only the symptoms while ignoring deep underlying issues because we are not aware of them. This can only make the situation worse and lead to what could have been avoided in the first place by having an x-ray conducted.

Most people fear scheduling x-rays because they have heard myths about exposure to radiation. The radiation levels in our x-ray machines are so low they are even safe for children. If you have not had an x-ray this year, schedule one with us today.
