Dental Veneers

Rendering of jaw with porcelain veneer on toothNot everyone is blessed with the perfect smile. However, just because your teeth are not perfect, that does not mean that your smile is stuck that way forever. Peninsula Center of Cosmetic Dentistry offers numerous solutions for helping you to achieve the smile you have always dreamed of. One way that we can transform your smile is with veneers.

Transforming the Look of
Your Teeth with Veneers

Veneers are a purely cosmetic dental treatment. They are minimally invasive but can help to transform your smile, your whole appearance, and your confidence. Using thin shells of porcelain, we can completely cover over many different types of flaws in your visible teeth, giving you a picture-perfect smile that you have always dreamed of.

Veneers Vs. Bonding

Veneers and bonding are both cosmetic treatments that are meant to improve the appearance of your teeth. Both can treat similar issues, including chips, gaps, size or shape discrepancies, or discoloration. Bonding is a non-invasive procedure, where veneers are minimally invasive. We do need to remove a few millimeters of tooth enamel to place the porcelain restorations properly. Veneers also do cost more than bonding. However, veneers are much stronger than bonding. While they do have a risk of chipping or breaking, the risk is much lower than the risk associated with bonding. Moreover, because veneers are stronger, they can last for much longer.

Veneers Vs. Crowns

Crowns can be used to address similar issues to those addressed by veneers. In most cases, however, they are used to deal with more significant damage that impacts your oral health and not just the appearance of your teeth. Veneers can only treat cosmetic issues. Crowns require the removal of a larger amount of your tooth enamel because they cover the entire tooth rather than just the front surface. They also cost more than veneers do.

Are Veneers Right for Me?

If your teeth, and your smile, are suffering due to minor imperfections, you may be wondering what the best solution is for you. We can help. Before choosing your cosmetic solution, we first examine your mouth and discuss your goals. We will also talk about your lifestyle factors, such as if you grind your teeth, or if you smoke or drink. Veneers are much stronger than veneers. The porcelain material is also stain-resistant. While the treatment costs more than bonding, veneers provide a stronger, longer lasting cosmetic solution.

Despite being stronger, it is still important that you take good care of your veneers. Just like your natural teeth, porcelain can chip or break under too much pressure. To avoid these issues, it is recommended that you do not bite your fingernails and that you do not use your teeth as tools. If you grind or clench your teeth, you may be recommended a night guard to help protect not just your veneers, but your natural teeth as well. It is also recommended that you avoid drinking excessive amounts of alcohol, as the alcohol can affect the bonding agent that holds your veneers in place, causing them to come loose.
